Samsung Galaxy S24 is poised to be an AI-powered smartphone similar to Google’s Pixel 8 phones. The Korean phone maker recently unveiled the Gauss AI chatbot for Galaxy phones and now a major leak has shown even more AI features coming to Galaxy phones, starting with the S24.
The leak shows software features coming with Samsung’s next big software update, One UI 6.1, which is expected to debut with the S24 series in January 2024. Similar to Google Pixel 8 phones, Samsung is planning to add AI-generated wallpapers using just a few prompts. This will allow for custom wallpapers with interchangeable weather, portrait effects, and more.
Samsung’s built-in image editor for the photo gallery is due for some AI upgrades. These upgrades will enable users to expand an image past its original borders, moving objects from one image to another, and more. The Samsung Notes app will be able to summarize large amounts of text into bullet points following the One UI 6.1 update.
Voice calls are also getting some highly convenient features, such as noise suppression for clearer conversations. This feature will use the phone’s microphone to remove background noise from calls. Real-time translation will be introduced with this update as well, letting the person on the other end hear words in their own language while their words are translated at the same time.
Other than that, the usual software refinements are in order including battery protection, more customization, and smoother animations.
Gauss AI
The leak doesn’t show any signs of Samsung’s newly announced Gauss AI chatbot, but the company has previously confirmed that its ChatGPT rival is meant to power Galaxy smartphones next year. It will roll out with the flagship Galaxy S24, but will most likely become available on cheaper and older phones as they update to One UI 6.0.
Gauss AI brings features similar to ChatGPT such as Gauss Language, that will help write emails, summarize articles and documents, translate content, and also help monitor smart home devices. It will also feature Gauss Image and Gauss Code, whose names are quite self-evident. Gauss Image will be an image generator similar to DALL-E and Gauss Code will act as a code assistant.
