Upscaling tools that restore the detail and resolution of images are commonplace at this point, but this new AI tool is able to completely rejuvenate old media as if it were made during modern times. The best part is that all of this can be done with simple prompts and a few words with no technical skills necessary.
This new image upscaler and enhancer is called Magnific AI and the company describes it as: “The most advanced AI tech to achieve insanely high-res upscaling. Not only upscale, enhance! Magnific can hallucinate and reimagine as many details as you wish guided by your own prompt and parameters!”
The founder of this AI tool, Javi Lopez, has demonstrated the prowess of Magnific AI by upscaling and enhancing a screenshot from the classic Tomb Raider video game from the 90s. The tool was not only able to restore the quality, but also made the image look like a scene from a modern live-action movie.
⚡ OK, this is impressive 🤯
I also wanted to try upscaling Lara Croft from PS1 to super high resolution! Mini step by step tutorial 👇

– Creativity: 3
– HDR: 0
– Resemblance: -1

Lopez also shared the settings and input he used for the first upscaling. He set the tool’s preset to Standard, Creativity at 3, HDR at 0, and Resemblance at -1. The prompt he used was “Screenshot, (detailed eyes:1.2), (detailed lips:1.1), (young cute:1.2), Lara Croft, beautiful, 8k”.
For the second upscaling, he used the same settings as above, but the Creativity was toned down to 1. Here is the result.
Some other users also took the liberty to enhance screenshots from other games such as Metal Gear Solid from the PS1 era, which also came out in the 90s. Here are the results.
The list goes on with many iconic characters remade from popular games such as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

With Magnific AI a reality, it is not hard to imagine old movies and video games being remade from the ground up in considerably less time. Perhaps Capcom will be one of the first game companies to employ similar technology for its game development since its Resident Evil remakes have been fan favorites lately.
To use Magnific AI, users can head over to their website for a sign-up and pay for either monthly or yearly subscriptions, starting as low as $39 per month.
