Hitting 100 million users just two months after its November 2022 launch, OpenAI’s ChatGPT became the fastest consumer internet app to get to 100 million users. Here’s an infographic putting this achievement in context.
As you can see in the graph, even the most popular apps in the world – including the likes of TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube took way longer than ChatGPT to get to 100 million users. TikTok which previously held the record for the fastest consumer internet app to get to 100 million users is the only other app that took less than a year to achieve this milestone. Every other app took at least two years to get there.
What’s also very interesting is that ChatGPT has achieved this feat without having a mobile app. It is the only product in this list that has done so. All the other members of this list had mobile apps play a major role to help them get to 100 million users.
OpenAI is in the process of developing mobile apps for ChatGPT, which is expected to enable the app to achieve even greater success and break new records.
